If you like to read about real estate in Canada, you're probably being led to think that the only worthwhile market to invest in is the Toronto real estate market. Reams and reams of articles are done every day about how wonderful a place Ontario is for buying real estate, when the rest of the country is out there, full of lovely homes at reasonable prices. In a lot of cases, you don't even have to sacrifice city living. Take Halifax, Nova Scotia for example. Halifax is a city with character where there's plenty to do, and it's got a great real estate market. Just look at the comparisons.

Small Houses

If you wanted to buy a small one or two storey house with three bedrooms and a nice little plot, you would only be looking at paying an average of $221,000 to $396,000. Prices for similar properties in the GTA just barely overlap the high end of this range. Vaughan homes would cost you around $365,000 while properties in Moore Park are in excess of $1,160,000. Meanwhile on the other side of the country, the cheapest you could get a similar property in Vancouver is $440,000, and that's all the way out in Surrey.

Big Houses

While more movie stars and famous business people live in Toronto and Vancouver, Halifax is has it's share of wealth too, meaning there are some great large homes out there. You can buy a four to five bedroom home for between $332,000 to $565,000 in a nice neighborhood in central Halifax. If you were looking at Mississauga real estate for sale the cheapest you could get a similar property is $430,000, and that's on the small end of the scale. For an executive property in Vancouver, you'll be paying over $800,000 if you want to get anywhere near the mainland.

Town Houses

Town houses are becoming increasingly popular in the city, and you'll find that an increasing number of Richmond, Virginia houses for sale are town houses. It's true in Halifax as well. You can get a nice new town house near the city center for an average of $219,000 to $275,000. Compare that to Toronto, where town house prices range from $244,000 in Mississauga to $560,000 in Cabbagetown. Or to the Vancouver area, where a town house is $276,000 on the North Delta and $800,000 in Vancouver West.

Condos

With the increase in population density in the cities, people with a real estate license in Canada are turning increasingly to selling condos. In Halifax there are a lot of new condos, and you can buy one for $285,000 to $337,500. In Toronto, the cheapest you can get a luxury condo is $345,000 in Scarborough. Meanwhile in Vancouver, you can get a standard condo for as little as $164,000 if you want to live all the way out in the North Delta.
